BEAR RIVER MASSACRE COMMEMORATION AND HEALING
Held yearly the last Saturday of January.
For 150 years on the last Saturday of January, the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe remembers the 450 Northwestern Shoshone who were killed January 29, 1863, along the Bear River, near present day Preston, Idaho, in perhaps the largest massacre in United States history. Also in attendance are representatives from Fort Douglas, Utah, and other officials.
IDAHO DAYS
Held yearly the last Saturday of June.
On April 14, 1860 pioneers settled Franklin, the oldest permanent settlement in Idaho. Two years before the fiftieth anniversary, William Woodward came up with the idea of having an annual celebration to commemorate this historic event. On April 26, 1910, Governor James H. Brady proclaimed June 15 as the official Idaho Day. On June 14 and 15, 1910, the first Idaho Day celebration took place. Idaho Days has been celebrated every year since then.
